Whether you’re looking to start a social media presence or get serious about your brand it’s essential to have a clear strategy – it doesn’t need to be fancy, and it doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to make sense to you. That is what this document is for! The Social Media Strategy worksheet is designed to help you define the key aspects of your brand’s social media and to develop different post types to allow you to focus on creating content that engages with your audience.
Step 1 – Brand Name
This step may seem as simple as filling out your own name on a test – though it is critical that you maintain brand consistency on your Social Media. Whichever Brand Name you choose to operate under should reflect the same on all of your various channels – not just in the name of your page but also with your page URL. Before committing to a page URL on one of your social channels, attempt to assign the same URL on each channel to ensure that it isn’t taken. Do your best to make your URLs match across channels, even if they don’t match your brand name. (This is why you see some public figures and brands use a prefix in their URL – “its____” or “thereal_____” to help tie their channels together.)
Step 2 – Social Channels
Once you’ve chosen your various Social Channels, list them out! Just try not to cast too-wide a net and have more channels than are manageable. If you don’t plan on engaging on a platform such as Pinterest or LinkedIn then don’t put your focus there until it’s relevant.
Step 3 – Target Audience
Who do you imagine that you’re trying to connect with? Who is already engaging with your brand? Define that audience as best you can. This target audience description should focus on things such as common interests and not necessarily age or occupation.
Step 4 – Goals
Set yourself clear goals! Is your social media meant to grow brand awareness? Help users by providing insight? Increase website traffic? Whatever you want to achieve – jot it down.
Step 5 – Post Types
Here is where the fun begins! In this document there are spaces for 6 different post types, fill these out with concepts for various kinds of posts that are outside of the ordinary “International ______ Day” – these post types should align with your audience, your goals, and should inspire you to come up with a collection of posts for each type. For your long-term social media strategy, your target should be to create a library of posts for each of these post types so that you can enter them into your calendar – giving yourself a runway of content, as well as a hopper of backup options when inspiration feels lacking.
Ultimately, the key to social media success is Engagement and Consistency. Whether you’re new to social media or looking to refine your current approach, this free resource will simplify the process and help you to make the most out of your online presence.
